However, I feel that the widely used CCTV has deprives individual rights to move freely without being monitored consciously or unconsciously by the government. Each citizen's rights as stipulated in the Constitution has to be uphold or respected at all time.
Sadly this has not been the case in Singapore for example a motorist is being monitored by the Land Transport Authority (LTA)'s electronic road pricing system. Initially, the purpose of installing the CCTV on highways is to monitor and control the traffic congestion but the motorist movement can be monitored by the government for other purposes.
Another example is the Housing Development Board(HDB) installation CCTVs in its lift. Again the main purpose of installing the security device was to capture people urinating in the lifts but the residents' movement are also being monitored consciously.
I feel that although we can see the benefits of these CCTV, we should also have some space for privacy. If there is CCTV around, all of our action would be recorded and there would be no privacy. Like i have mentioned earlier, each citizen's rights as stipulated in the Constitution has to be uphold or respected at all time. Thus we should have some freedom if the government lessen the number of CCTV in Singapore.

Jia Hao, Installing of CCTV has a purpose and that purpose has aided the Police in tracking can capturing criminals. The purpose is taking down the suspect's identity. Without this CCTV installations, this aid would not be available to the police today. What difference is there from us the modern people and those of the shelock holmes days? The purpose of CCTV installations is also to prevent crimes from happening. According to reports, the percentage of crime has dropped drastically, due to cctv installations. With CCTV installations, terrorist would find it harder to strike at us, especially at this point of economic downturn. Who cares about privacy when you wont get killed?
