Disadvantages of CCTV

There are some disadvantages of CCTV. One of them is our privacy. Imagine living in a world where CCTV is install everywhere, no matter where you go, there will be eyes on you. Who would want to live in that world? There is no secret and what difference is that as a normal citizen and a prisoner? And even if CCTV was install, does that really guarantee our safety? The culprit of thievery, murder or robbery just have to wear a mask and everything will be fine. The culprit can also find the angle where CCTV will not be able to locate them to commit some crime. What if a person was at a place with CCTV so he let his guard down and a person just attack him with a mask on, would the CCTV be responsible for what it has done? What if the guy who was attacked was dead and CCTV cannot find the culprit, then what is the point of installing them? Just to treat everyone in the world as prisoners? Thus, CCTV should not be place at too many places.

  1. Wow. Why don't you leave your door to your house wide open when you leave, or leave the keys to your car in plain sight inside. CCTV is a deterrent just like a fence around a property. It does not guaranty that someone will not commit a crime, but it helps minimize it. CCTV goes beyond that, offering evidence of an act otherwise not possible. Is it perfect? Far from it. But it better than nothing at all. Only in movies can one entity follow you were ever you are using somebody elses system. Not having cctv giving an extra layer of security in a place that merits it is irresponsible. Somebody letting it's guard down because there is a cctv system in place is like saying somebody crossing the street without looking for incoming traffic just because the light is green. Only in correctional facilities cctv keeps prisioners, the rest of the time is protecting assets or just people like yourself. Nobody is sitting behind a monitor watching every move you make. It would take 1 person to watch another person. Do you really think this is even viable? If you were a victim of hideous a crime in a place with no eyewitnesses, you would feel better if you look up and you see a camera giving you at least a chance of having some sort of evidence.

  2. Your argument is flawed. In a nutshell, what you are trying to say is, CCTVs should be entirely removed for the privacy of the people are much more important. Also, you claim that CCTVs are useless, for the criminal could avoid detection with a proper strategy.

Let's start with the CCTV's purpose. A CCTV is a device used to survey certain areas, to reduce the manpower needed to patrol an area.

So, from the above, you could infer that CCTVs are arguably only "eyes" which increase the sight range of the guards.

That brings us back to your point, a criminal could commit a crime with proper strategy with or without the CCTVs.

If we look at the sight range of CCTVs, they are definitely better then human's, for modern CCTVs have sight angles of 360* which definitely beats the human's.

If the criminals could get past something like that, what would a few patrolling guards be ?

CCTVs exist as an extra barrier separating the criminal from invading the building, which, the security guards, happen to be the same.

Furthermore, you claim that the CCTV's film does not give sufficient evidence to trace the culprit. That is wrong. A film from a CCTV never lies, and it does not change. However, the human mental image of the criminal would fade over time.

Therefore, i think that your theory of having CCTVs removed is not viable.

  3. Wei Liang, please read the articles or watch youtube regarding CCTV again. What your telling people is something absurd. First point: Who said CCTV is installed everywhere, no matter where you go, there will be eyes on you? Second point: There is what secret? You didn't elaborate the secret. The function of a CCTV is to monitor the surrounding of that area, to help policemen with their work, why would people care about the secret your talking. If you don't create trouble, arouse suspicion, the people using the CCTV to monitor that area will not even bother you.
Although some of your points are relevant, you did not use enough to support your points. Why people would still be caught even though they wore mask? It is because of modern technology. As we know, a leopard will never change its spots, to pre-empt them from harming innocent by-standers and steal expensive valuables, the policemen would use every clue to find out the culprit who is doing it. Everyone makes mistake, out of those countless times of robberies, obviously he will either leave a clue or let his guard down, so he would not notice that he is being taped down. CCTV is not only to catch criminals, it is to give fear to those loan sharks, etc. and also to assist the policemen in investigating how to crack the case. If the CCTV has already been labelled as in used by the police, people should understand that their action is being monitored closely and be in their own risk.
If your still persistent that your correct, I have nothing to say to you, but your selfish and ignorant act determinds what type of person you are.
