Singapore is one of the few countries that can puff up her chest and say that she has one of the lowest crime rate in the world, but we must never let our guard down or get complacent. As seen from a terrorist, Mas Selamat, due to complacency, this guy escaped. With the CCT surveilliance, the police could cover more ground and to be able to apprehend this criminal. The installation of CCT surveilliance is also essential and productive. It lessens down the man power needed to patrol areas as one man can view several cameras. In some cases, this CCT cameras were able to record down crimes being committed thus bringing the culprit down to justice within hours. CCT cameras also provide a sense of security to those around it. Without CCT surveilliance, terrorist would be able to carry out secret operations throughout the cities with ease as patrols are not nesccesarily covering everywhere. With CCT surveilliance, we are able to survey the whole city and cut down the man power needed to keep vigilance in the place. With manpower cut down, lesser money is needed to provide a high level security, thus the government could swint their financial support to other areas which are crippled by this economic downturn.

Hi kelwin, I am Jing Han. I agree with you that CCTV surveillance should be installed. As you mentioned, " Without CCT surveilliance, terrorist would be able to carry out secret operations throughout the cities with ease as patrols are not nesccesarily covering everywhere". If we had installed it, Mas Selamat would not have escaped due to the police officers complacency. With the CCTV surveillance , it would also helped cut down the manpower which is also a good point.

I disagree with you when you say that CCTV surveillance should be installed in Singapore, Kelwin. The police need to be around the cameras to nab those the cameras spot, since all the cameras can do is to capture whatever everybody is doing on video tapes and can't possibly shoot laser beams at an offender, right? The cameras could be a waste of money if they cannot nab the offender. So manpower is still needed for this work.
