What will you defend?

Khoo Ye Rong (16)

Q1. What do you hold most dear in life such that you would strive to protect and defend in times of threat or crisis?

Q2. For the above question, state three different aspects and include in your responses, why you think these specific aspects are important to you.

A1. I am Khoo Ye Rong, 16, I may have a different perspective from others. To me, I will defend anything and anyone I can. If you were to ask which one has the top priority, I did say friends. The reason why I did not put family as first is because I know my parents have the ability and are strong to protect themselves. If not, they would not have been able to raise me up till who I am now.

A2. My friends are the dearest to me. Be it academic or gaming, they have always been there. One person that always help me academically is Aron Chen from secondary 2I. Without him, I bet a lot of my homework will be undone. Shu Han and Feng Ming who can be annoying at times have always been good friends with me since the start of the year. I play with them and study with them. When I am in trouble, these three person always never fail to be there for me. These are the reasons why I chose to protect and defend my friends. Maybe if they are brave and courageous enough, they could follow me into war. I know it is silly, but I will volunteer to be in the Singapore Armed Forces and fight for Singapore, for this small island is my homeland. Without it, I will not even be able to meet these friends. Without them, they will never be me.

Reply to Terry Tan:

1) I am glad there is another person who will go into war with me. Even though we are protecting different groups of people, I think we are both the same. We live for these people. They are our motivation to live on. Therefore, they cannot suffer. Although we do quarrel with them, it is just because we care for each other.

2) I am glad you remembered the supply of food and water. Without them, soldiers cannot go to war. People in the 21st century who lives in a modern city like Singapore are weak due to the comfort we live in. We will not be able to withstand the hunger and will eventually starve to death. That is one point I missed out. Thanks for reminding me.
